The question that matters more than price

Ask whether the spatula is double dipped. The correct answer is no, with no hedging and no explanation about how they clean it.

Double dipping means the same spatula goes from your skin back into the wax pot, then on to the next area, and in a parlour, on to the next client. It is the single biggest cause of infection in waxing anywhere, and it happens constantly, because re dipping saves wax and saves time and almost nobody watching knows to object.

At home you can simply watch. That is the real hygiene advantage of a home booking, more than the wax being fresh or the room being yours. One client, one pot, and you are standing right there. In a busy salon the pot on the warmer has served everyone in the room since morning and you have no way of knowing how carefully.

A wax pot tells you everything about a business, and it is the one thing a five star review can never actually verify.

Honey or rica: how to actually decide

Two options, and the honest position is that the cheaper one is right for most people. Honey wax works perfectly well on normal skin and costs a good deal less. Rica is not a luxury upgrade for people who want to spend more, it solves a specific problem.

Honey wax grips the skin along with the hair. Rica is a resin based wax that grips the hair far more than the skin, so it lifts less of the surface with it. That matters if you have sensitive skin, if you get red bumps that last two days after every session, if you get ingrown hair, or if you are waxing an area that has been waxed recently.

Our beautician will explain the difference and then leave the choice to you. We do not push the expensive one, and if you have normal skin and no history of bumps we will usually tell you honey is fine and save you ₹150. That is not generosity, it is that a client who feels sold to does not book again.

Threading, and why we go slowly

Threading is priced small and matters more than its price suggests. Eyebrow threading is ₹40, upper lip ₹30, forehead or chin ₹30, and full face ₹149. A fresh length of thread is pulled for every client, which costs nothing and is skipped surprisingly often.

The part we refuse to hurry is the shape. Our beautician shows you the shape and confirms the thickness before starting, every time, including on regular clients. There is no undo button on an eyebrow. A brow taken too thin takes six to eight weeks to come back, and in that time you will look at it every morning.

If you want a shape changed rather than maintained, say so at the start and expect it to take two or three sittings. Anyone who promises to reshape a brow properly in one go is either going to take too much off or not enough.

How often, and what regrowth really looks like

Three to four weeks for arms and legs is the honest range for most people. Not six, not two. Underarms come back faster, usually two to three weeks, because the hair there grows more quickly and most people notice it sooner.

• The first few sessions are not the best ones. Body hair does not grow on a shared schedule. Any single session catches only the hair currently in its growing phase, which is why the first two or three feel like the regrowth is faster than promised. By the third or fourth the cycles start lining up and the gap genuinely stretches.
• Waxing does not permanently reduce hair. Over years of consistent waxing regrowth often comes back finer and patchier, and that is real. It is not permanent reduction and it is not the same thing as laser. Anyone in this city telling you wax will end hair growth is selling you something.
• Do not shave between sessions. Shaving cuts the hair flat at the surface, so it grows back blunt and feels coarser, and it resets the cycle you have been building. It is the fastest way to undo four months of getting the timing right.
• There has to be something to grip. About the length of a grain of rice. Booked too early, the wax cannot take hold, you get half a result and full price. We would rather move your slot by five days than do a session that disappoints you.

When waxing is the wrong call

We turn these bookings down. It costs us the appointment and it is still the right thing to do, because the alternative is a client with a genuine problem who blames us for it, correctly.

• Skin on acne medication or a retinoid. Several common prescriptions thin the top layer of skin considerably. Waxing over that can lift skin rather than hair. If you are on anything prescribed for acne, tell us, and ask your doctor rather than us.
• Sunburn, active rash, cuts or a fresh tan burn. Wait until it has fully settled. This one is not a judgement call and there is no version of it that goes well.
• Moles, warts or raised skin in the area. We work around them rather than over them. If they are dense across the area we will say the area is not suitable.
• The two days before an important event. Not unsafe, just badly timed. Redness settles in a few hours for most people and takes a full day for some. For a wedding or a shoot, book three days ahead. We say this constantly in wedding season and it is ignored about half the time.
