The last two weeks before a wedding are when people try hardest. A friend recommends a miracle facial, a cousin says to cut the hair, a video promises glowing skin by Friday. The urge to do something is strong, and doing the wrong something is how a bride ends up with a breakout on the one week it matters.
These are the ones we see most often, each with what to do instead.
1. Trying something new in the final week
A new facial, a new product, a treatment your skin has never met. If it goes well, you gain a little. If it goes badly, you have no time to recover. A reaction in week two can be managed. A reaction in the last three days cannot.
2. Cutting the hair short at the last minute
Hair does not grow back for the wedding. A bun, a braid or an updo needs length to hold pins and jewellery. A big change two days before leaves you with fewer styling options and no way to undo it.
3. Skipping the trial because it feels like a luxury
The trial is where you find out the lip colour fights the lehenga, that the base looks heavy in daylight, that you hate the eyeliner. Finding that out at 6 in the morning on the wedding day is the expensive way.
4. Bleaching and facials crowded into the same days
Bleach, a facial, waxing and a de-tan within 48 hours of each other is a lot for one face and body. Each one is mild alone. Stacked, they leave skin irritated and red when you want it calm.
5. Waxing on the morning of the function
Fresh waxing leaves redness and slightly tender skin for some hours. It is the wrong thing to have done on the day you will be hugged, draped and photographed for ten hours.
6. Not saying out loud what your skin reacts to
A past reaction to a perfume, a hair dye, a particular wax. People assume it is not worth mentioning. It always is, because it decides which products the beautician reaches for.
7. Chemical hair services too close to the date
Smoothening, keratin and colour all change how hair behaves for a while after. A colour that comes out a shade off, or straightened hair that will not hold a curl, is hard to fix with days to spare.
8. Forgetting that sleep and water are part of the plan
No treatment outperforms a week of poor sleep and dehydration. Skin shows both immediately, and makeup sits worse on it.
If you are within two weeks of the wedding, send us the date and what you have already planned. We will tell you honestly what to keep, what to move and what to skip.
Common questions
What should I avoid in the last two weeks before my wedding?
Anything your skin has never had before, drastic haircuts, stacking several skin treatments into the same couple of days, and chemical hair services. Keep the final days to gentle, familiar things.
When should I wax before the wedding?
Three to four days before, so redness has settled but skin is still smooth.
Is the makeup trial really necessary?
It is the cheapest insurance in a wedding budget. It costs ₹1,499, or nothing within the bridal package, and tells you what works with your outfit and jewellery while there is still time to change it.
Can I get a facial the day before the wedding?
A light cleanup or a familiar facial is usually fine. A new or intensive treatment is not a good idea so close to the day.
How far ahead should I do keratin or smoothening?
Several weeks ahead is safer, so the hair has settled before your hairstyle trial. Ask your beautician for a timing that suits your own hair.
