A chaniya choli shows more than most outfits: arms, back, midriff, and the ankles that every garba step puts on display. Waxing is one of the things people book first for Navratri, and also one of the easiest to time badly.
Wax too late and the skin is red on the first night. Wax too early and you are patchy by Ashtami. Here is the window that works for nine nights, and the choices that matter inside it.
One session can cover the whole festival
Waxed hair typically takes three to four weeks to return. Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, nine days, so a single session before the first night can last through Dussehra on the 20th. You do not need to rebook mid-festival.
How many days before the first night
The usual advice on this site is to wax three to four days before an event, so redness has settled and skin is still smooth. For a festival where you will be dancing, sweating and wearing fitted cholis, that margin matters even more.
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Four or more days before 11 October | Ideal. Any wax suits. |
| Two or three days before | Still workable. Choose Rica wax, which grips hair rather than skin, and tell us your first garba night. |
| The day before, or the day itself | Not recommended: redness may still show. Wax a day or two later if you can, or tell us and we will suggest a gentler option. |
| Skin that normally stays red for a day | Book earlier, not later. |
| Already fasting strictly | Skin can feel more sensitive. Do it before the fast starts if you can. |
Honey wax or Rica wax for the festival
- Honey wax. Costs less and works well on normal skin. A sensible choice for arms and underarms if your skin does not react.
- Rica wax. Grips the hair rather than the skin, so it is gentler and leaves less redness. Worth the extra if your skin is sensitive, or if you are close to the first night.
Our guide on Rica versus honey wax goes through the difference in detail. For a festival with sweat and friction, many people choose Rica for the areas they will move most.
What to cover for chaniya choli
- Arms. Sleeveless and short-sleeved cholis show them fully. Half arms or full arms, depending on the sleeve.
- Underarms. Every raised arm in garba shows them. A quick one, often paired with arms.
- Back and stomach. Backless, halter and cut-out cholis show the back and midriff. Stomach or back waxing is its own item.
- Legs and feet. Chaniyas lift when you spin. Legs show at the ankles at least.
- Face. Threading is quicker and gentler than waxing for eyebrows and upper lip, and is cheap. See our comparison of threading and waxing for the face.
Looking after waxed skin through nine nights
- First 24 hours: keep it calmLoose clothes, no direct sun on waxed areas, no heavy sweating. This is the day before your first garba night, not the night itself.
- Moisturise lightlySkin that has been waxed and then danced on dries out quickly.
- Do not scrub for a few daysGentle exfoliation helps ingrown hairs later, not on freshly waxed skin.
- Wash after the nightSweat and dust sit on waxed skin. A wash and a moisturiser after each night is enough.
Our waxing prep and aftercare guide and the guide to ingrown hairs cover this in more detail.

Common questions
How many days before Navratri should I get waxed?

Will one waxing last all nine days of Navratri?

Which wax is better for garba, honey or Rica?
Rica is gentler and leaves less redness, which suits sensitive skin or a tight timeline. Honey costs less and works well on normal skin.
What should I wax for a backless choli?
Back and stomach waxing is one item at ₹249, ₹224 with the Navratri 10% offer for appointments 11 to 19 October 2026. Add underarms and arms in the same visit.
Can I wax during the Navratri fast?
Skin can feel more sensitive during a strict fast. It is better done before the fast begins. Tell us if you are fasting when you book.
How much is full body waxing at home in Jaipur?
