Teej and Gangaur are among the biggest occasions in Jaipur's calendar, and both come with a familiar routine: mehndi, a new outfit, jewellery, a proper hairstyle. Because the dates move each year, we do not quote them here. Check the current festival calendar and work backwards from it.
What does not change is the order in which to do things, and the fact that the last few days before either festival are the hardest to book.
A four-step plan, worked back from the day
- About a week before: book earlyMehndi and makeup slots fill first in the days before a big festival. Booking early gives you a choice of time.
- Four to five days before: skinA facial or cleanup this far ahead settles before the day. A ₹299 cleanup or ₹499 fruit facial is usually enough for a festival.
- Two to three days before: hairA hair spa at ₹649 makes hair easier to style and shinier in photographs.
- The day before: mehndi and nailsMehndi last, since you cannot do much with your hands afterwards. Manicure first if you want it done.
Mehndi: the part that cannot be rushed

Festival day itself
- Makeup. Party makeup at ₹1,499, or ₹1,999 with a hairstyle. Book the time so you are ready an hour before you need to leave.
- Draping. A neatly set saree or lehenga is ₹499, and worth it for a festive poshak.
