A facial should come before face threading or face waxing, not after. This is the opposite of what a lot of people assume, since it feels natural to think of a facial as the final, finishing step before an event.
Why the order matters
- A facial can leave skin slightly warm and more reactive. Extraction, steam and massage during a facial genuinely increase blood flow to the face and can leave skin a little more sensitive for a short while afterward. Threading or waxing over skin in that state increases the chance of visible redness or irritation.
- Threading or waxing right before a facial can push product into open follicles. Waxing and threading temporarily open hair follicles. A facial applied immediately after, particularly one with a mask or heavier product, can settle into those open follicles and cause small breakouts that would not happen with the correct order.
- Facial-then-threading also gives a cleaner finish. With a facial done first, the skin is properly cleansed before any hair removal, so threading and waxing work on genuinely clean skin rather than skin with facial product residue still on it.
How much time to leave between the two
A gap of 20 to 30 minutes between the end of the facial and the start of threading or waxing is enough for skin to settle from the facial's warmth before hair removal begins. This is roughly what a normal appointment already allows if both are booked back to back with us in one visit.
What about bleach and de-tan alongside a facial
Face bleach should also come after a facial, for the same reason as threading: skin that has just been bleached is more reactive, and a facial applied over freshly bleached skin can cause irritation that neither treatment alone would.
